A tin shack on the sand dunes very close to Waimarama Beach, on a property on Waitangi Rd, owned by Hohepa Orikena from Waimarama, but no longer used, was damaged in a suspicious fire on Sunday. The fire just north of Waingongoro Stream also destroyed about 30m by 35m of grasses on the sand dunes. Hastings Fire, Waimarama Rural Fire Force and the Havelock North Volunteer Fire Brigade attended.
Prue Farnworth, Hawke's Bay Lawn Tennis, Napier, won the 65-plus mixed doubles with Quentin Maisey, Western Bay of Plenty, 6-2, 6-7, 6-0, against Steve Molnar and Penny Molnar, Nelson - tennis at the New Zealand Veterans Championships at Hawke's Bay Lawn Tennis, Napier.

A sun halo above St Paul's Presbyterian Church, cnr Dalton St and Tennyson St, Napier. Wikipedia says the ice crystals responsible for halos are typically suspended in cirrus or cirrostratus clouds 5-10 km high in the upper troposphere.
