Living the Dream

"From a local hospital orderly to the hospital chaplain: "It’s pretty hard to stay an atheist around here." "Why?" "All the miracles." "What do you mean?" "Recently a man died, and we had given him the resuscitation to no effect. The doctors had signed off time of death and called in the family. The Doctor had an idea, 'What if we shock him one more time.' They did and he came back to life! They thought he would have brain issues. No issues." "

Living the Dream

"Coffee Creek Prison, Portland - One of the inmates needed new glasses and was having trouble getting new glasses. She asked for prayer to get new glasses, instead God healed her vision so she doesn't need to even wear glasses any longer. She shares her testimony and based on that testimony they prayed for another female inmate who was complaining about blurry vision and the frustration with reading. Her vision cleared up instantly."

Skewed perspective?

Matthew Beveridge has an interesting blog on the use of social media in the lead up to the 2014 general election. His latest post is about the effectiveness of a fan-shaped graphic put out by the National Party, which is unusually distorted:

Here's my photoshopped version where I've "corrected" the perspective:

In the half-a-second attention span particular to most users of social media, the top version is pretty clever and, I think, effective in that without any deep analysis it makes me 'feel' the drop, especially if I'm scrolling down as I read. The lower one, I've seen before.

Regarding the message, my main comment is that it's all very well projecting four years ahead, but the graph really should show the previous four as well to have much relevance, particularly in election year when budgets tend to be rosy.

Neither do I consider a projection to be "evidence". Someone more cynical than me might regard that as a skewed perspective in more ways than one.

What do you think?

Living the Dream

"AJ had a background as an Occupational therapist in Germany. She would regularly have clients experiencing what we would call encounters with God during their therapy sessions. While she was interning with me, she established a friendship with one of the local city officials. One day she was visiting this city official to drop off a gift. The official was clearly unsettled about something, so she inquired about what was going on. He shared that his father had been diagnosed with leukemia and was not expected to live beyond four months.

She immediately responded by saying she had a problem with anyone dying from disease because Jesus paid for that not to happen (Jesus’ blood heals every sickness and disease). She then told him a testimony of another person being healed from cancer and offered a quick, 30-second prayer for the official’s father. The next week she heard back that the official’s father had gone in for follow-up tests, and the doctors could no longer find the leukemia!"
