Jason Lambert, maitre'd at Mister D Restaurant, Tennyson St, Napier, had to get out the old technology Zip Zap credit card reader due to a regional power cut. The kitchen could still use the gas cookers, but not the electric ovens. Staff were preparing for candle-lit dinners. The outage was caused by a double lightning strike affecting two Transpower circuits supplying the network from Wairakei. Power went off about 3.50pm for 75 minutes photograph
