In the first lap, car 32P driven by Peter Rees, Palmerston North Pumas, took a hit from car 85B driven by Tony Palmer, Meeanee Maulers, knocking Peter Rees unconscious. His car continued on around the track, veered into the centre of the track and smashed into a support vehicle. St John Ambulance staff checked on him and removed his helmet when he came to. The Pumas won the race with just four cars - Teams racing, Peter Barry Stockcar Teams Event, Meeanee Speedway, Meeanee, Napier photograph
