A car smashed a power pole and burst into flames on Te Aute Rd, Pakipaki, about 1650. Witnesses said they saw the car speeding along the road, and the driver getting into another vehicle after the crash. Police, St John Ambulance and the Fire Service attended. photograph

Residents and campers were evacuated from Clifton Beach Reserve Motor Camp, Clifton, Hawke's Bay, after big sea swells undercut the road at the camp's entrance.
